This map of Central and Northern Europe is one of the earliest obtainable authentic woodcut maps, published only a few years before 1500. The plate was exactly published and printed in December 1493 in Nurnberg at Koberger. The "Nurnberg Chronicle" was the earliest and most richly illustrated incunabula and description of the world, which was as well illustrated with a small number of authentic double page city views. The woodcuts were mostly cut by Pleydenwurff. The map extends from Southern France in the Southwest towards Lithuania in the Northeast. In the north it shows Iceland, Norway, Lappland, Sweden, Finnland, land mass named 'Grunland' and parts of Russia. The centre of the map provides good and detailed information on rivers and mountain chains of Central Europe showing Germany, Poland and Hungary prominently. Capitals and regions are named. Printed on the full double page sheet (45,6 x 62,8 cm) as published. Small restorations and mended stitch wholes in the centre fold, as usual. as well a few skillful restorations at the right blank outer margin, these are not affecting the image of the map. A highly decorative early map of the duchy of Austria, towns are still shown as miniature engraved city views, mountains, woods, rivers and lakes are decorative engraved. The map was engraved after the cartographic source by Wolfgang Lazius. This is the first state of two, before the horizontal hatching in the Neusiedler See and Ebensee. In the center of the map we find Vienna. The map reaches in the west from Linz towards the Neusiedler lake in the east. In the south with the neighbouring Carintia and Salzburg. A highly decorative map of the kingdom of Hungary published from two plates by the famous Italian caertographer Giovanni Iacomo Rossi in Rome. The plate was engraved by by Vin. Mariotti in Rome. The lower right corner is equipped with a floral and amorial ornated title cartouche with an eagle on top. Top right we do find a mileage scale with Hungarian, Italian, German French and Polish miles. The very left upper corner consists of a descriptive cartouche with text by Giovanni Iacomo Rossi. This cartouche is ornated with a figurative allegoric scene and coat of arms of the kingdom of Hungary. The highly decorative is published in two double page sheets.
