We cannot locate the two little towers in front of S. Giorgio's island, which were build in 1813.
In very good to excellent condition. 5th state (with changes in S.Marco's garden).

Nurnberg, Koberger 1493 [39,2 x 58 cm]
Original woodcut map published in the famous "Nurnberg Chronicle", printed in Nuernberg, in December 1493. Verso with descriptive text and the imprint for the German text edition of the 'Nurnberg chronicle'. This map of Central and Northern Europe is one of the earliest obtainable authentic woodcut maps, published only a few years before 1500. The plate was exactly published and printed in December 1493 in Nurnberg at Koberger. The "Nurnberg Chronicle" was the earliest and most richly illustrated incunabula and description of the world, which was as well illustrated with a small number of authentic double page city views. The woodcuts were mostly cut by Pleydenwurff. The map extends from Southern France in the Southwest towards Lithuania in the Northeast. In the north it shows Iceland, Norway, Lappland, Sweden, Finnland, land mass named 'Grunland' and parts of Russia. The centre of the map provides good and detailed information on rivers and mountain chains of Central Europe showing Germany, Poland and Hungary prominently. Capitals and regions are named.
Printed on the full double page sheet (45,6 x 62,8 cm) as published. Small restorations and mended stitch wholes in the centre fold, as usual. as well a few skillful restorations at the right blank outer margin, these are not affecting the image of the map. A very good impression on paper with wide margins. In very good condition.

Praechtig handkolorierte Stadtansicht, rueckseitig ebenfalls illustriert mit kleineren handkolorierten Darstellungen von Heiligen im Holzschnitt. Deutsche Textausgabe. Diese Ansicht von Ulm ist eine der fruehesten erhaeltlichen authentischen Stadtansichten, gedruckt und verlegt kurz vor 1500. Dieser Holzschnitt wurde exakt im Dezember 1493 gedruckt und verlegt bei Anton Koberger in Nuernberg. Die Holzschnitte wurden ueberwiegend von Pleydenwurff geschnitten.

Original woodcut from the famous "Nurnberg Chronicle", printed in Nuernberg, in December 1493. Fully hand colored city view of Venice, as well the initials in text rubricated throughout. Verso illustrated as well with the half page view of Padua on one side and on the other side with six small woodcuts of saints. German text edition. This view of Venice is one of the earliest obtainable authentic city views, published only a few years before 1500. This plate was exactly published and printed in December 1493 in Nurnberg at Anton Koberger. The "Nurnberg Chronicle" was the earliest and most richly illustrated incunabula and description of the world, which was as well illustrated with a small number of authentic double page city views. The woodcuts were mostly cut by Pleydenwurff. Impressive and highly decorative city view of the medieval Venice, with St. Marcus place, churches and towers, the lagoon, boats and decorative landscape in the background.
On the full double page sheet (45,6 x 62,8 cm) as published. Minor mended stitch wholes, as usual, at the centre fold. A very good impression with wide margins. In excellent condition.

Decorative and fine map of the 'Palatinatus Bavariae' around 1584-1612. The maps shows upper Bavaria with the neighboring Bohemia woods, the 'Fichtelgebirge' and Nuernberg. In the south the course of the Danube. The cartographic source for this map received Ortelius from Erhard Reych. The cities and towns on the map still shown as miniature views in form of silhouettes. This version with the cartouche at the bottom was published 1584 for the first time. Kupferstichkarte, in dekorativem Flaechenkolorit, erschienen im Theatrum Orbis Terrarum von A. Ortelius bei Juan Baptist Vrients. Im Unterrand mit ausgemalter Rollwerkskartusche. Dekorative und schoene Karte der Oberpfalz um 1584/1612.Zeigt die Oberpfalz mit angrenzendem Boehmerwald, Fichtelgebirge u. Nuernberg. Im Sueden noch mit dem Lauf der Donau. Ortelius uebernahm die Karte nach der Zeichnung von Erhard Reych. Die Orte noch in Silhouettenform als Miniaturansichten dargestellt. Tadelloses Exemplar. Erschien erstmals ab 1584 in dieser Variante mit der Titelkartusche im Unterrand.

Original copper engraving, published 1612 in a Latin text edition of the famous historical atlas 'Parergon' by Abraham Ortelius. Finely decorative hand colored in wash. Highly decorative engraving, published from two double pages showing the dignitaries of the Holy Roman Empire. This engraving was published from 1593 for the first time in the atlas by Gerard de Jode. The plate was later acquired by Vrients and was then from 1603 onwards included in Ortelius's 'Theatrum'. Our example was published 1612 in a Latin text edition of the Parergon. 'They represent the dignitaries entitled to choose German Emperors, as instituted to end the turmoil and quarreling that occurred after the death of Charles the Great, by Otto IV and the Pope. This plate shows left of the Emperor the highest ranking officials, three ecclesiastical and four lay dignitaries. The second rank consists of four dukes and four marquesses, the third of 8 earls.'
