Basel, Petri 1590 [26,2 x 34,6 cm] Decorative woodcut map, published in the Cosmographia by Sebastian Muenster around 1590. Ornated with a descriptive cartouche and a large ship in the sea. Various kingdoms are named in the African continent, as well rivers and mountains are shown. Various elements like animals and trees were used for the decoration of the map. Still a good to very good example of this much sought after early map. A few minor, very carefully mended thin places in the margins of the map (else very good). Africa from the 'Neptune Francais' Mortier, Cornelius & Covens, Jean Carte Generale de L'Afrique Levee par ordre expres des roys de Portugal Amsterdam, Mortier 1705 [ca. 60 x 96 cm] Copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. A highly decorative sea-chart, published 1705 in Pierre Mortier's famous sea atlas 'the Neptune Francais'. The chart shows Africa impressive surrounded by the Ethiopian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. In excellent condition. Africa & Indian Ocean Van der Aa, Pieter d'Oostindize voyagien door Johan Davis tweemaal gedaan; uit desselfs reysverhaal opgemaakt. Leiden, Van der Aa 1706-08 [15,5 x 22,6 cm] Original copper engraving, uncolored as published. Small and decorative map of Africa and the Indian Ocean showing the travel of Johann Davis around Africa to South India and Sri Lanka. The decorative map is ornated in the lower right corner with an allegoric title cartouche showing a scene with an elephant and inhabitants. The famous Dutch publisher and mapmaker Pieter Van der Aa (1659 Leiden - 1733 Leiden) published 'during the period 1882-1733, an enormous quantity of printed matter' (Koeman). This map was actually published in the first edition of his travel books 'Naauwkeurige versameling der gedenk-waardigste zee en landreysen na Oost en West-Indien', in Leiden 1706-08. Printed on the full sheet as published; the map was originally folded in this series, so that old folds are more or less visible. Decorative map of Africa with Madacasgar and the islands in the Indian Ocean. This detailled map of Africa, engraved after the cartographic sources by de Guijelmus de L'Isle is ornated by a large allegoric title cartouche in the upper right corner and a milage scale in the lower left corner. In very good condition, a minor spot left of the title cartouche within the image (nearly not disturbing). Published in Zatta's "Atlante Novissimo". Decorative map by the famous late 18th century North-Italian cartographer Antonio Zatta. With many names of cities and villages, as well engraved mountains and rivers are shown. The hand colored engraved title cartouche ornated with a landscape. A small mileage scale. A decorative map showing the African continent with the neighboring Madagasgar in the Indian Ocean. The individual regions of Africa are hand colored in outline. Equipped with a highly decorative title cartouche in the lower left corner. In excellent condition. Africa Mollo, Florian Africa nach F.M.F. Schmits Vienna, Mollo 1831 [32,5 x 44 cm] Copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. This decorative and unusual map of Africa was published 1831 in Vienna at Florian Mollo. The map is based on F. Schmits. The interesting map provides a lot of place names, lakes, mountains and names of rivers. At the bottom we fin a explanation for the outline colors showing the different European possessions in Africa. Inside the map are many place names, rivers, woods, etc. engraved. At the left side we look to the Atlantic Ocean and at the right side we see the Indian Ocean. In very good to excellent condition. A minor ink stain at the upper engraved border.
