Basel, Petri 1575 [25,7 x 34,3 cm] Decorative handcolored woodcut map, published in the Cosmographia by Sebastian Muenster around 1575. Early and highly decorative woodcut map of Asia ornated with a large sea-monster or fish and a Neptune in the lower part of the map in the Indian Ocean. Asia is shown from the Caspian Sea and Arabia across the Indian Ocean, Sotheast Asia towards the Chinese sea. Mountains, rivers and place names are only schematic engraved on the map. The woodcut maps by Sebastian Muenster are belonging to the group of the most interesting maps, which were published in the 16th century. They were widely spread out and the Muenster's 'Cosmography' was published in several languages so that a pretty large part of the population was able to enjoy these geographical and cultural-historical illustrations. London, Th. Bowles and John Bowles 1736 [20,2 x 26,7 cm] Copperengraving, uncolored as published. Small appealling map of the entire Asia, showing the Middle East, Arabia, Southeast Asia and already Australia (New Holland). In the ocean the passatwinds are engraved shown. The geographer Hermann Moll worked came originally from the Netherlands and worked in London in the beginning for Moses Pitt. Later he became one of the important map publishers in England. The atlases, which he published were widely well known. He engraved as well maps for other English publishers (John Seller, etc.) . In excellent condition.
