The decorative woodcut bordures verso were probably cut by the famous 16th century woodcutter Hans Holbein. Nearly none of the captivating woodcut borders verso are repeating, they are mainly shaped by allegoric scenes, coat of arms or wonderful initials. The map shows England and most of Ireland. Orientated with the north to the left.

Original copper engraving, published 1624 at B. Moretus in Ortelius' historical Atlas 'Parergon'. Finely hand-colored in wash and outline. The map is ornated with three cartouches, in the upper middle the title cartouche, in the upper right corner we find a cartouche with the 'privilegium'. On the lower right side cartouche with text. Villages and towns are shown as miniature views, moreover the map is ornated with ships. A very good example in excellent condition. A fine and decorative historical map of the British Isles. This map by Abraham Ortelius is based on the modern information of Mercator's 1564 map of the British Isles, as well improved by a new outline from Saxton's 1579 map and ancient knowledge from Diodorus Siculus, Plinius, Appianius, Tacitus, Caesar and Strabo. The map was engraved by Jan Wierix.

The Cloppenburg edition was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... (Koeman Atlantes Neerlandici). Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash. A highly decorative map of the Saxon kingdoms, published in Jansson's historical Atlas 'Accuratissima Orbis Antiqui'. Latin text edition. Jansson has copied Blaeu's fine map of the Saxon kingdoms with its vignettes of Anglo-Saxon history. Ornated on both sides with a broad border with seven kings on the left side and seven historical scenes on the right side. Jansson 's map can easily be distinguished from that of Blaeu through the compass lines radiating across the seas; there is also an additional escutcheon on the land surface of Ireland. With engraved place names , mountains, woods and coat of arms of the various counties in Great Britain. A beautiful hand colored example of this decorative map. In the German Sea with two engraved sailing ships and a compass rose.
A very minor skillful mending at the lower centre-fold, else in excellent condition. Shirley #577

Reilly engraved, were especially designed for the Austrian Royal house and show countries, provinces and districts belonging to the 'Austrian-Hungarian Empire'.
