Antwerpen, Platin 1588 [39,2 x 50 cm] Original copper engraving, hand colored when published. First Spanish text edition 1588. This map was published 1588 in the first Spanish edition of the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". Finely hand colored in wash and outline, when published. The map is ornated with three cartouches, in the lower center the title cartouche, in the right upper corner another decorative ornated cartouche with the "privilegium". Florida, Peru & Mexico Ortelius, Abraham Peruviae Auriferae Regionis Typus. La Florida. Guastecan Reg. Antwerpen, Platin 1588 [33,2 x 46,5 cm] Original copper engraving, hand colored when published. First Spanish text edition 1588. This map was published 1588 in the first Spanish edition of the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". Finely hand colored in wash and outline, when published. Three maps on one double page: Peru, Florida and Guastecan. The map of Florida is was of the earliest cartographic examples showing Florida and the gulf of Mexico. The map is based on early Spanish cartographical sources by Geronimo de Chaves. Villages and towns are shown as miniature views, moreover the map is ornated with ships and animals and small renaissance title cartouches. In very good to excellent condition. Danckerts. 1680 [48 x 57,7 cm] Copper-engraving, hand colored in outline when published. Large impressive map of the West Indies with the gulf of Mexico and Florida. The map shows prominently in the centre Cuba, Haiti, the Bahamas and Florida, which is here marked in the map as the province 'Tegesta'. With many engraved place names, rivers and mountains. Also islands, sand banks and reefs are shown on the map. Also Central America is nicely and detailed shown with Yucatan, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Terra Firmae. In the right upper corner is a beautiful colored title cartouche held by two putties. At the top a Dutch engraved title is present with a mileage scale and table of explanations. Very minor crease at the centre and a minor uniform toning, else a very nice example in a fine early dark impression. Still in very good condition. Leiden, Van der Aa 1706-08 [16 x 23,3 cm] Original copper-engraving, uncoloured as published. The famous Dutch publisher and mapmaker Pieter Van der Aa (1659 Leiden - 1733 Leiden) published 'during the period 1882-1733, an enormous quantity of printed matter' (Koeman). This map was actually published in the first edition of his travelbooks 'Naauwkeurige versameling der gedenk-waardigste zee en landreysen na Oost en West-Indien', in Leiden 1706-08. Printed on the full sheet as published; the map was originally folded in this series, so that old folds are more or less visable. The geographer Hermann Moll worked came originally from the Netherlands and worked in London in the beginning for Moses Pitt. Later he became one of the important map publishers in England. The atlases, which he published were widely well known. He engraved as well maps for other English publishers (John Seller, etc.) . In excellent condition. West Indies Mollo, Tranquillo Charte Von West-Indien Nach den besten Huelfsmitteln verfast. Vienna, Mollo 1807. [33 x 45 cm] Copper engraving in contemporary original color in outline. Unusual map of the West Indies published by the Austrian cartographer and publisher Tranquillo Mollo in Vienna. The southern tip of Florida is shown with a few place names on the map, further on the Bahamas (Lucasian Islands) are pretty detailed engraved and most of the islands in the West Indies, shown on this map, are arranged on the map with detailed engraved names. The map itself encludes Central America with Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Venezuela is also shown on the map. In excellent condition, a minor printer's crease, not disturbing, in the lower right side of the map. Printed on slightly green paper. West Indies Starling, Thomas West Indies. By Thomas Starling. London, Perkins & Bacon 1833 [ca. 9 x 14 cm] Steel engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. The map shows detailed the West Indies. Also we can see the Mexican Sea, the Caribean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Inside the map are many small place names engraved. At the right side we find a extensive reference table.. Fine designed and engraved small map by the London engraver Thomas Starling published in his 'Geographical Annual' 1833 showing a fair amount of place names, rivers and political borders of the different countries and territories.
