Maj. Nuernberg, Homann, J. B. 1716-20 [47,3 x 57,2 cm] Copper-engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. This famous map of the Southeast of North America was published in J. B. Homann's famous printing house in Nuernberg after the cartographic sources by G. de Isle in 1703 and is also based on the explorations by La Salle. The map is ornated with highly decorative allegories on the Spanish exploration in the West Indies and New Mexico. In the upper left corner the engraved title in the allegoric title cartouche with the engraved 'privilegium' (second state, Louisiana is now named 'Ludoviciana' instead of 'Florida' from the first state). The map itself provides a very good information on many place names, rivers, mountains and lakes. In excellent condition. This important map of the Southeast of North America was published in J. B. Louisiana Weigel, Christoph Novissima Tabula Regionis Ludovicianae ... Nuernberg, C. Weigel, 1719 [ca. 31,2 x 40,2 cm] Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. The cartographer Christoph Weigel worked around 1719 in Nuernberg and his maps are showing the typical style of this period in mapmaking in Southern German. He worked very close as with Johann B. Homann in Nuernberg. All his maps were handcolored in outline and decorative body color immediatelly in his printing house, after they were printed. In very good condition. A very nice and quite detailed antique map, which shows the mouth of the Mississippi into the gulf of Mexico. With Pensacola in Western Florida, Mobile Bay in Alabama and Louisiana with New Orleans. The map is equipped with many place names, lakes, rivers, etc. An unusual early nineteenth century map published in Germany. In excellent condition. The map was originally published folded, so that the old fold is still slightly visible. Paper minor toned. The map is showing the western part of Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas and the northern part of Mississippi. The map provides an enormous amount of information settlements, towns, small place names, rivers, roads, mountains, streets, etc. The map also shows the Indian regions with engraved boundaries (Choctaw & Chickasaw Boundary). The map has three inset maps, which show the Ohio falls, the surrounding of Washington and Clarksburg and a map of the nearby surrounding of Frankfort, Lexington and Winchester. In the upper right corner is an explanation table listing the steamship routes of Louisville - Pittsburg and Louisville - New Orleans. Further there is an extensive mileage scale. In very good to excellent condition. A few minor stains or spots, mostly marginal not affecting the image of the map. The map is divided up into its counties and provides detailed information on small place names, rivers and streets. Even distances near certain streets are engraved. In the upper right corner a small table of explanations, further at the left side a table with steamboat routes: Mobile - Tuscaloosa. Mobile - Montgomery. - Mobile - Pensacola. In excellent condition. The paper slightly toned with a minor offsetting from the printing (as often). This large antique map shows Kentucky and Tennessee in the United States. The map has many place names, rivers, etc. engraved. In the lower right corner we find a view of the 'Entrance to the Mammoth Cave' and in the lower left corner a view of 'Navy Yard Memphis'. In the upper left corner next to the title is a view of 'State House Nashville'. The views on this map are altered compared to the edition by Johnson & Ward. The counties of Kentucky and Tennessee are hand colored in wash. In very good condition. A light brown spot within the image (near Williamstown).
