This very decorative map shows Marocco with the Atlantic and the Canary Islands. There are many place names, rivers and mountains inside the map. At the lower right corner is a wonderful title cartouche, figurative ornated. In the upper left corner we have an inset map of the 'Congo delta'. In the Atlantic Ocean are the Canary Islands with Tenerife and Lanzarote.
In very good condition. Minor slightly marginal water stains.

This is the first so-called Cloppenburgh editions which was a competive edition with new engraved maps in a larger format. Most of the maps were engraved by Pieter van den Keere. The Cloppenburgh edition was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... . This is another Cloppenburgh edition, now with Latin text. The maps from the Appendix have been incorporated. The title-page is followed by a dedication to Prince Frederik Hendrik, dated 1632 and signed by Johannes Cloppenburgh. The map shows the West coast of Africa from Larache in the north towards Capo Cantin in the south, the coastline of the Maroccan coast is pretty detailed engraved showing tiny islands, bays, depths in the water and sand banks. Ornated in the upper right corner with an inset map showing the bay next to 'Nieu Sallee' with the mouth of the river Rio Rebata. In the lower left corner with a highly decorative title cartouche with allegories to the sea and to the earth, as well a mileage scale with Dutch, Spanish and English miles. The Dutch firm and printing house van Keulen was one of the most important and leading publishers for sea charts during the ending 17th century. Their firm was leading in providing charts to the Dutch East India company also their charts relating to the Americas were of high importance. Copper engraving, uncolored as published. This map shows the river Sanaga. The map is divided up into three parts. One shows the river Sanaga, the other the surrounding landscape with trees, mountains, etc. from the Fort of St. Joseph in Galam and the third shows a ground plan of the Fort with an explanation in the upper left corner, at the bottom we find a mileage scale. A fine detailed and interesting map engraved by Bellin after earlier voyages. Published in the German edition by Schwabe in Leipzig of Bellin's travel books.
In excellent condition. One small hole at the bottom, not affecting the image.
