Amsterdam, Frederic de Wit, 1680 [44,5 x 55,7 cm] Copper-engraving, handcolored by a later hand in outline and wash. In the lower right corner a figurative title cartouche. The map is richly ornated by cityviews and costumes at three sides. Frederic de Wit's continent map of Europe, ornated in the upper margin with city views of European capitals: Rom, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Sevilla and Prag. On each of both sides we find 4 scenes of European emperors. The map itsself has engraved borders and names many cities and towns. The map has been handcolored by a later hand, reverse we find skillfull restaurations in the area of the center and around the lower corners. Vienna, Reilly 1791 [23,5 x 36 cm] Original copper engraving, hand colored in wash and outline, when published. Eastern and Northern Europe by the Austrian mapmaker F.J. Reilly. The map was used as the key map for his first part of his atlas 'Schauplatzes der fünf Theile der Welt ...'. The map extends from England, France, Germany over Poland, Lithuania towards Russia. At the very right side an extensive table of explanations. In the upper left corner two small inset maps of Iceland and Greenland. The Austrian cartographer Franz Joh. Josef von Reilly published around 1789 in Vienna a large amount of very detailed district maps of Central Europe. These maps are famous for their large scales and the many details they provide. Even tiny place names can be found on those maps, rivers, mountains, streets, monasteries are as well engraved. The maps, which Franz J. Reilly engraved, were especially designed for the Austrian Royal house and show countries, provinces and districts belonging to the 'Austrian-Hungarian Empire'. In very good to excellent condition.
