The map has been handcolored by a later hand, reverse we find skillfull restaurations in the area of the center and around the lower corners. A strong and fine impression of Weigel's map of Europe, ornated with a large decorative allegoric title cartouche. The cartographer Christoph Weigel worked around 1719 in Nuernberg and his maps are showing the typical style of this period in mapmaking in Southern German. He worked very close as with Johann B. As well the map is equipped with many place names of antique city places, as well the countries are divided up into its regions and many historic names of those regions and provinces are engraved. In the upper left corner a circular inset with a map of the 'New World' Americas. The cartographer Christoph Weigel worked around 1719 in Nuernberg and his maps are showing the typical style of this period in mapmaking in Southern German. He worked very close as with Johann B. This antique map shows Europe divided up into its countries and the adjacenting regions Russia, the Middle East and North Africa. The map is accurately detailed engraved and shows many place names, rivers, mountains, lakes etc. In the upper left corner we find the large allegoric title cartouche with a detailed title and dedication to the famous French cartographer Guillaume De L'Isle, on whom the cartographic information of this map is based. This is the revised edition 1769, formerly published by Ph. Buache in 1745. In the upper right corner we find an inset map, which shows a part of Russia and Nova Zembla. A small circular inset with an text advertisement on the Russian Empire is engraved near the Caspian Sea. In very good to excellent condition.
