Antwerpen, Juan Baptist Vrients 1612 [33,5 x 50,9 cm] Original copper engraving, published 1612 in the famous Vrients-edition of the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". Finely hand-colored in wash and outline. Outstanding decorative early map of Bohemia with its neighbouring countries. This early map shows Bohemia still in shape of a heart. Prague is shown in the centre of the map. With many engraved names of villages and cities, as well smaller places. Rivers, mountains and woods are decorative shown. The map is ornated with two cartouches, in the lower left corner the title cartouche, in the lower right corner we find a milage scale with nine text lines of explanations in Latin. Bohemia Mercator, G. Bohemia Petrus Kaerius Coelavit Bohemiae Regnum. Amsterdam, I.E. Cloppenburgh, 1632 [18,7 x 25,4 cm] Copper engraving, uncolored as published. A fine copy in a dark impression, full margins as published. This is the first so-called Cloppenburgh editions which was a competive edition with new engraved maps in a larger format. Most of the maps were engraved by Pieter van den Keere. The Cloppenburgh edition was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... . This is another Cloppenburgh edition, now with Latin text. The maps from the Appendix have been incorporated.
