Decorative handcolored seachart showing the famous Dutch colony 'Surinam' in South America. The coastline is providing a lot of information on a few smaller placenames along the coasts and the inland rivers. It shows as well sandbanks, depths and ancorplaces. Ornated in the upper right corner with a title cartouche and as well a cartouche with an allegoric trading scene and below with a milage scale in three languages.

Copper engraving, uncolored as published. A fine copy in a dark impression, full margins as published. This is the first so-called Cloppenburgh editions which was a competive edition with new engraved maps in a larger format. Most of the maps were engraved by Pieter van den Keere. The Cloppenburgh edition was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... . This is another Cloppenburgh edition, now with Latin text. The maps from the Appendix have been incorporated. The title-page is followed by a dedication to Prince Frederik Hendrik, dated 1632 and signed by Johannes Cloppenburgh. Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. Published in Amsterdam at Hendrik Hondius, verso descriptive French text. This decorative map shows Guiana with the neighboring Trinidad and the adjacenting Amazon river. In the left lower side is a decorative renaissance mileage scale and in the upper right corner is a highly decorative ornated title cartouche. The Atlantic Ocean is ornated with a compass rose, sailing ships and a sea monster.

Engraved after de Cortes Verrolg, published in the travelbook by van der Aa, which describes the discoveries in the West-Indies and Central America after Ferdinand Cortez. The map shows detailed Venezuela and its coastline, as well many of the islands (Curacao, Aruba, Margarita Barbardos, Trinidad and many other small islands); in the upper right corner an allegoric scene with inhabitants next to the title cartouche. Detailled map showing Venecuela with the islands in the Caribean sea along the coast. Among that islands we find Curacao, Aruba, Tortuga, St. Margaritta, the Grenadille islands, Tobago and many more. The famous Dutch publisher and mapmaker Pieter Van der Aa (1659 Leiden - 1733 Leiden) published 'during the period 1782-1733, an enormous quantity of printed matter' (Koeman).
