Copper engraving, uncolored as published. A fine copy in a dark impression, full margins as published. This is the first so-called Cloppenburgh editions which was a competive edition with new engraved maps in a larger format. Most of the maps were engraved by Pieter van den Keere. The Cloppenburgh edition was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... . This is another Cloppenburgh edition, now with Latin text. The maps from the Appendix have been incorporated. The title-page is followed by a dedication to Prince Frederik Hendrik, dated 1632 and signed by Johannes Cloppenburgh. (Koeman Atlantes Neerlandici).

Copper engraving, finely hand colored in outline, when published. Partially heightened in gold. A highly decorative and important map showing Florida, the Eastern seaboard and the West Indies. The southern tip of Florida with the Tortugos islands and the Martinier islands. Along the eastern coast of Florida with some engraved capes and river names, among them Cape Canaveral. An important chart of this period showing the sea routes and explorations of the Spanish and Dutch during this period. This chart of the West Indies by Jacobsz Theunis was published in a Dutch composite sea atlas mainly with charts by Pieter Goos, who was 'one of the best known maritime booksellers of Amsterdam' (Koeman), he published a number of different sea-atlases or pilot books, his work was very much derivative. With his 'Zee-Atlas' he relied heavily on Hendrick Doncker's 'Zee-Atlas' of 1659. Our example of this sea chart 'Pascaerte van West Indien ...' by the Lootsman (Anthony Iacobsen) Family was published in an early composit sea atlas probably around 1665/66. This map is printed on excellent thick double paper, it stands out through the highly decorative hand colors and the partially heightening of gold in title cartouches, mileage scales, compass roses or other places.
Printed on double thick paper. The paper slightly toned or stained. In very good to excellent condition. Koeman IV (Maritime Atlases), Goos pp. 190 ff. & Theunis, Jacobsz, pp. 223-6, #27.

Copper-engraving, hand colored in outline when published. Large impressive map of the West Indies with the gulf of Mexico and Florida. The map shows prominently in the centre Cuba, Haiti, the Bahamas and Florida, which is here marked in the map as the province 'Tegesta'. With many engraved place names, rivers and mountains. Also islands, sand banks and reefs are shown on the map. Also Central America is nicely and detailed shown with Yucatan, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Terra Firmae. In the right upper corner is a beautiful colored title cartouche held by two putties. At the top a Dutch engraved title is present with a mileage scale and table of explanations.
Very minor crease at the centre and a minor uniform toning, else a very nice example in a fine early dark impression. Still in very good condition.

Copper-engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. This famous map of the Southeast of North America was published in J. B. Homann's famous printing house in Nuernberg after the cartographic sources by G. de Isle in 1703 and is also based on the explorations by La Salle. The map is ornated with highly decorative allegories on the Spanish exploration in the West Indies and New Mexico. In the upper left corner the engraved title in the allegoric title cartouche with the engraved 'privilegium' (second state, Louisiana is now named 'Ludoviciana' instead of 'Florida' from the first state). The map itself provides a very good information on many place names, rivers, mountains and lakes.

A splendid detailed map, showing nicely the adjacenting Indian territories in the West, further the map is showing detailed a larger part of Texas, the gulf of Mexico and Florida. The general key map of the entire United States is extending towards the Western territories with California and Oregon, as well New Mexico and the Indian territories.
Throughout all maps in excellent condition. Protected in their original cover as published. Our illustration shows all 16 folded maps digital joint together to a large wall map (56 1/2 x 72 inches).

Steel engraving, hand colored in outline when published. This large and decorative map shows detailed Mexico and Central America. The map is equipped with many small place names, rivers, lakes, the gulf of Mexico and the Pacific coast. A interesting map for the Southwest US and the Southeast US with Florida. In the lower left corner we find two inset maps. One shows the railway project of Tehuantepec and the other a inset map of San Salvador and Honduras. Along the the countries of Central America (Mexico, Guatemala, S. Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica) tables with abbreviations of the names of mountains in these countries. At bottom of the map we find detailed explanations for the map and a mileage scale. This map is the revised edition engraved by Kratz published 1866 in Weimar.
Still in very good condition. Two skillfully mended clear splits at the upper and lower centre fold. One small spot within the image, a small crease at the lower right corner.
