    Original woodcut from the famous 'Nurnberg Chronicle', printed in Nürnberg, in December 1493. German text edition. This view of Cologne is one of the earliest obtainable authentic city views, published only a few years before 1500. This plate was exactly published and printed in December 1493 in Nurnberg at Koberger. The 'Nurnberg Chronicle' was the earliest and most richly illustrated incunabula and description of the world, which was as well illustrated with a small number of authentic double page city views. The woodcuts were mostly cut by Pleydenwurff.

The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. This decorative plan shows two city views. One shows Crempe with many houses, a fortress, a church, river, boat on the river, trees, windmill, etc. On the second view shows the city of Rheinholdsburg.

The four towns are: Wittenberg - Wismar - Rostock and Frankfurt / Oder. The town views are very detailed engraved with many houses, churches and ships on the rivers in the foreground.

The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. This decorative map has four decorative city views on one double page. The four cities in Baden and Elsass are Weissenburg, Ruffach, Kolmar and Baden. All views are nicely engraved and are equipped with many detailed houses, streets, places, churches, castles also with the surrounding landscape and people in the foreground. Verso descriptive German text.

    Old colored when published. In very good condition, the view of Rothenburg with an old mended split at the centre fold and a narrow margin at the bottom, which was skilfully added with paper from the period. I / 36

    Original copper engraving, hand colored in wash, published 1576 in volume I of the town book 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. This decorative plan shows a bird's eye view of the city of Aachen. A very nice and detailed plan of the city of Aachen with its walls and the nearby surrounding. The map is richly equipped with many houses, churches, etc. In the foreground with inhabitants. In the upper corners are two coat of arms of Aachen engraved. The title cartouche is in the lower left corner. Old colored example of this map, verso with descriptive German text. This view of Aachen by Braun and Hogenberg after the sketch by Hendrick Steenwyck, was only published from 1572 towards 1578, it was then replaced by a similar bird's eye view of Aachen in the townbooks by Braun & Hogenberg.
    In very good condition. Near the lower centre fold with an old mending. A few minor marginal mending. B& H vol. I / 13.

    Original copper engraving, hand colored in wash, published 1578 in volume I of the town book 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. This very beautiful decorative map shows us a bird's eye view of the city of Aachen. A very detailed view of the city of Aachen, ornated with inhabitants in the foreground. We look at the city with its fortifications, the walls and towers, many accurate engraved small houses, churches, places, etc. It shows as well the surrounding with a wonderful landscape and nearby fields. In the lower right corner we see the large allegoric title cartouche. In the upper left and right corners are the coat of arms of Aachen. This view of Aachen by Braun and Hogenberg was published from around 1578 onwards, it replaced the earlier bird's eye view of Aachen by Braun & Hogenberg, engraved after the sketch by Hendrick Steenwyck (1576).
    Two marginal water stains in the lower corners, not affecting the image at all. In excellent condition. B& H Vol. I / 13.

The two plates are showing one general decorative panoramic city view of Leipzig and 14 views of famous houses, buildings, churches, market squares in the city of Leipzig. A spectacular map of this famous German city in original colors of the period when published.
