Nurnberg, Koberger 1493 [39,5 x 27 cm] Original woodcut from the famous "Nurnberg Chronicle", printed in Nuernberg, in December 1493. German text edition. This view of Budapest is one of the earliest obtainable authentic city views, published only a few years before 1500. This plate was exactly published and printed in December 1493 in Nurnberg at Koberger. The "Nurnberg Chronicle" was the earliest and most richly illustrated incunable and descripton of the world, which was as well illustrated with a small number of authentic doublepage city views. The woodcuts were mostly cut by Pleydenwurff. Here is only present the left part of the double page woodcut view of Budapest. In very good condition. Villages and towns are shown as miniature views. A. A highly decorative map of the kingdom of Hungary published from two plates by the famous Italian caertographer Giovanni Iacomo Rossi in Rome. The plate was engraved by by Vin. Mariotti in Rome. The lower right corner is equipped with a floral and amorial ornated title cartouche with an eagle on top. Top right we do find a mileage scale with Hungarian, Italian, German French and Polish miles. The very left upper corner consists of a descriptive cartouche with text by Giovanni Iacomo Rossi. This cartouche is ornated with a figurative allegoric scene and coat of arms of the kingdom of Hungary. The highly decorative is published in two double page sheets. The map is very detailed in place names, castles, engraved fortresses, rivers, lakes, mountains, etc. A few minor stains or small spots, hardly visible. In very good to excellent condition.
