    Original woodcut map uncolored as published. Early woodcut map of the Northern India, published in the Ptolemy edition by M. Servet, showing the Indian Ocean with the gulf of Bengal and the Ganges delta. The map is extending towards Tibet and the Himalayas mountains. The image of the map is probably extending towards the northwestern parts of India with the neighboring Pakistan and Afghanistan. An early and interesting map of this region in Central Asia. The map provides information on old place names, mountain chains and rivers are only schematic shown on the map. An interesting collector's piece. The woodblock was published here in 1535 by Michael Trechsel in Lyon and contained text by Michael Servetus. The paper with watermark anchor in a circle. The map is illustrated on the reverse side with descriptive text in Latin and a decorative woodblock border, probably by Hans Holbein, who was working at that time in Basle.
    In excellent condition. Printed on the full paper sheet as published.

    Cologne, G. Braun & F. Hogenberg 1578 [34 x 47 cm]
    Original copper-engraving, handcolored in wash, published 1578 in volume I in the townbook 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. The townbooks by Braun & Hogenberg are probably the most important series of early city views ever published. Decorative views of five important cities in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. These views belong probably to the earliest engraved views of those cities. The great view from the sea of city of Goa is very decorative arranged with ships in front of the harbour. As well the city views of Anfa, Azimur and Diu were nicely arranged with their fortifications and city walls.

    Original copper-engraving, uncoloured as published. Decorative map showing India, Sri Lanka and the neighbouring Birma and Thailand. With some engraved place names in those areas (Siam, Louvo, Ligor, Arecam, etc.). Ornated in the lower centre with a title cartouche showing inhabitants and explorers. The famous Dutch publisher and mapmaker Pieter Van der Aa (1659 Leiden - 1733 Leiden) published 'during the period 1882-1733, an enormous quantity of printed matter' (Koeman). This map was actually published in the first edition of his travelbooks 'Naauwkeurige versameling der gedenk-waardigste zee en landreysen na Oost en West-Indien', in Leiden 1706-08.
    In excellent condition. Printed on the full sheet as published; the map was originally folded in this series, so that old folds are more or less visable.

    Original lithograph, handcolored in outline and wash when published. Large, interesting and decorative map of India by the famous 19th century cartographer A. Petermann. The map provides an statistic overview of the Indian population, based on the census 1867-72. Below the title a table of colors related to the population, as well further explanations in the lower left corner. The map itself teaches towards Tibet in the north, the Andaman islands, Sri Lanka and the Lakkadiva islands.
    In excellent condition. The map was originally folded, so that the old folds are still slightly visable. An old mending at the left side, near one of the folds.
