This is the first so-called Cloppenburgh editions which was a competive edition with new engraved maps in a larger format. Most of the maps were engraved by Pieter van den Keere. The Cloppenburgh edition was continued for a couple of years but seems to have been suppressed after 1636 ... . This is another Cloppenburgh edition, now with Latin text. The maps from the Appendix have been incorporated. The title-page is followed by a dedication to Prince Frederik Hendrik, dated 1632 and signed by Johannes Cloppenburgh. Engraved by Pierre Franois Lapie. Pierre Franois Tardieu's large map of the Mediterranean Sea is printed from 4 plates and is here present in its 1st edition of 1808. Bertuch's 'Allgemeine Geographische Ephemeriden' do provide a complete review of this large nautical chart. At first both authors (Lapie and Rizzi-Zannoni) have been been extolled and celebrated very much, further the map is described as an excellent engraving, which is based on the newest method how to determine in an astronomic and geographical way exact locations. Along the entire coastlines of the complete Mediterranean Sea we do find engraved place names and engraved anchor places. The map is equipped with a large nautical compass rose in the centre. It also includes inset map of the Sea of Azov. A highly detailed nautical chart of the Mediterranean by the French geographer Pierre Franois Lapie and Giovanni Antonio Rizzi-Zannoni. We could locate one copy at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze (edition 1808), one example at Havard (1813) and another late edition in 1830. Printed from four plates, joint together.
