Original copper-engraving, handcolored in wash, published 1617 in the townbook 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. Decorative panoramic city view of Bergen in Norway. This decorative view of the city of Bergen engraved after Hieronymus Scholeus is one of the earliest obtainable printed old city views of Bergen. It is ornated with a scene of sailing ships in the harbor. The city is very well shown with its wooden walls, the houses and the castle along the coast and the surrounding decorative landscape. Ornated at the top with a title cartouche and coat of arms.
In excellent condition, on the full sheet as published. Latin text edition verso. Koeman, B & H # 4;

Copper engraving, handcolored in outline when published. Detailed map of the Southern part of Norway, showing the Diocese of Stavanger. The map provides many information on rivers, mountains, fjords and bays along the coast line and into the country. Decorative ornated with an allegoric title cartouche, as well several engraved ships in the 'North Sea' and two finely hand colored coats of arms. A very fine example published in a French text edition of the 'Atlas Major', wide full margins and outstanding hand coloring.

Copper-engraving hand colored in wash and outline when published. Impressive scene of the siege of Friedrichshall in Norway December 12, 1718 (Oppugnatio Friedrichshall). The fortresses are detailed explained and shown on the map. A decorative battle scene with the Schwedish ships in the foreground in the 'Ide Fiord'.
A good impression in decorative original hand colors as published. An old mended clear split at the lower half of the centre fold (nearly not visible). In very good to excellent condition.

In the lower left corner we find a decorative allegoric figurative title cartouche with the Norwegian coat of arms.

Original copper engraving, hand colored in wash and outline, when published. The Austrian cartographer Franz Joh. Josef von Reilly published around 1789 in Vienna a large amount of very detailed district maps of Central Europe. These maps are famous for their large scales and the many details they provide. Even tiny place names can be found on those maps, rivers, mountains, streets, monasteries are as well engraved. The maps, which Franz J. Reilly engraved, were especially designed for the Austrian Royal house and show countries, provinces and districts belonging to the 'Austrian-Hungarian Empire'.
