Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. 2nd state of Matthaeus Seutter's map of the East coast from Virginia up to Massachusetts and Main. Seutter's map of New York is based on Jansson's and Justus Dancker's map of New England. In Seutter's map the 'Restitio cartouche' has been replaced by a new one showing Indians and gods presenting tribute to an English nobleman. This is probably George II. The map includes the distinctive course of the Delaware River, showing it separate from the Hudson River. Below the title cartouche we do find now a panoramic city view of New York 'Neu Jorck sive Neu Amsterdam', with a detailed table of explanations in Latin names below. Some place names and notes on the map have been translated from Dutch in Latin and German names. This is also the first map to show by means of printed lines the boundaries of Massachusetts, New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
A minor, hardly visible crease near the centre fold, else in excellent condition. Tooley, The Jansson-Visscher Maps of New England p.291 #25;

Lithograph, original hand colored in outline. The decorative colorful outline handcolored map shows in its centre Indian & Ohio, Kentucky and the adjacenting Virginia and Pennsylvania. It provides detailed information on place names, little streets and routes, rivers, lakes, mountains. Further the states are divided up into its counties in outline color. Overall size of the map circa 18 1/2 x 22 inches. The interesting map in vivid period hand color. At the lower centre fold and bottom marginal browning, affecting also slightly the engraved image of the map towards the border of Virginia, not really too disturbing. Verso a small mending.
Still in very good condition.

A table with steam ship routes ( Pittsburg - Louisville, Philadelphia - New York via Trenton, Philadelphia - New York via Bordentown, Philadelphia - Baltimore via New Castle, Philadelphia - Baltimore via Canal) is in the lower left corner of the map. A detailed engraved map by the famous German map maker Meyer Joseph. The map is based on Tanner's work in the early 1840s.
In very good to excellent condition. Minor marginal water stains, however not affecting the image of the map.

Lithograph, hand colored in outline and wash when published. This antique map shows prominent in its centre the state of Pennsylvania with its neighboring states New York, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Inside the map are many place names, rivers, lakes, mountains, railroads, etc. Many counties are named and finely hand colored in wash. A detailed map of this part of the Eastern United States by the famous 19th century mapmaker and cartographer Calvin Smith. This is one sheet (map no 7) of Calvin Smith's famous map of North America. Here is the rare version in lithograph present, published in Cassel in Germany. A splendid detailed map, showing nicely Pennsylvania and adjacenting parts. The map is highly detailed colored in outline and wash by counties and states. An interesting collector's piece.
In very good condition. A few small marginal mended tears at the blank bottom, verso old backed (not affecting the image of the map) and a few minor marginal pin holes.

The map is equipped with many small place names, rivers, mountains, etc.
In excellent condition. The map was originally published folded, so that the old folds are still slightly visible.
