This map was published in the 'Theatrum ...' from 1570 onwards. The map is based on the cartograpic sketch by Aegidius Tschudi. Fine example, decorative colored, in outline and wash, by a later hand.

    Copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. This antique map shows Switzerland divided up into its cantons. The map is engraved with many mountains, rivers, woods, place names and many lakes, which are the 'Genfer See', 'Luzerner See', 'Waldstaetter See', 'Walen See', 'Zuerich See' and the 'Bodensee'. In the upper left corner is the allegoric title cartouche. Two mileage scales are on the left and right lower corners.
    In excellent condition. Slightly browned at the centre fold, however only minor affecting a part of the upper image at the centre fold.

The map is very detailed engraved with many small place names, rivers, mountains, etc. The map shows the area around lake Zurich (Lacus Tigurinus), 'Luzerner See', 'Walen See', 'Vierwaldstaetter See', the 'Thuner See' and the 'Brientzer See'. A decorative and interesting map showing the lakes in central Switzerland. This map by Guijelmus & Joan. Blaeu is based on the cartographic sources by Gerhard Mercator. A very fine example published in a French text edition of the 'Atlas Major', wide full margins and outstanding hand coloring.

    Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash when published. The detailed and decorative map by famous Dutch cartographer Gerard Valk shows Switzerland with its XIII cantons and the neighboring Rhaetia. The image of the map is reaching from the river Rhine and the Bodensee in the north towards 'Lake Geneva', the 'Lago Maggiore' and 'Lago di Como' in the south. Engraved with many place names of cities and villages, mountains, rivers, etc. Ornated in the upper left corner with a decorative title cartouche ornated with angels and a mileage scale in the upper right corner. The map is in original outline color from the period. It has the typical oxidation in the colors, as it is often seen on maps by Schenck & Valk. The map was carefully reinforced with thin Japan rice paper to protect the paper against the color oxidation.
    In very good to excellent condition.

    Copperengraving, uncolored as published. Small and decorative map of Switzerland divided up with engraved border into its cantons. Has map provides a good number of place names, rivers, streets, as well engraved mountains. The geographer Hermann Moll worked came originally from the Netherlands and worked in London in the beginning for Moses Pitt. Later he became one of the important map publishers in England. The atlases, which he published were widely well known. He engraved as well maps for other English publishers (John Seller, etc.) .
    In excellent condition. A strong impresion.
