Original copper engraving, hand colored when published. First Spanish text edition 1588. This map was published 1588 in the first Spanish edition of the 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum'. Finely hand colored in wash and outline, when published. The map is ornated with three cartouches, in the lower center the title cartouche, in the right upper corner another decorative ornated cartouche with the 'privilegium'. Villages and towns are shown as miniature views, moreover the map is ornated with ships and animals.

Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash. Three maps on one double page: Peru, Florida and Guastecan. The map of Florida is was of the earliest cartographic examples showing Florida and the gulf of Mexico. The map is based on early Spanish cartographical sources by Geronimo de Chaves. Villages and towns are shown as miniature views, moreover the map is ornated with ships and animals and small renaissance title cartouches.

Copper-engraving, hand colored in outline when published. Large impressive map of the West Indies with the gulf of Mexico and Florida. The map shows prominently in the centre Cuba, Haiti, the Bahamas and Florida, which is here marked in the map as the province 'Tegesta'. With many engraved place names, rivers and mountains. Also islands, sand banks and reefs are shown on the map. Also Central America is nicely and detailed shown with Yucatan, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Terra Firmae. In the right upper corner is a beautiful colored title cartouche held by two putties. At the top a Dutch engraved title is present with a mileage scale and table of explanations.
Very minor crease at the centre and a minor uniform toning, else a very nice example in a fine early dark impression. Still in very good condition.

This map was actually published in the first edition of his travelbooks 'Naauwkeurige versameling der gedenk-waardigste zee en landreysen na Oost en West-Indien', in Leiden 1706-08.
Printed on the full sheet as published; the map was originally folded in this series, so that old folds are more or less visable.

Engraved after Gil Gonzales Davila, published in the travel book by van der Aa, which describes the discoveries in the West-Indies and Central America after Ferdinand Cortez. The map shows detailed the West Indies, Southern Florida, Honduras and Venezuela, in the upper right corner an allegoric scene with the Spanish conquerors next to the title cartouche. A fine copy in a dark impression, full margins as published.

Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash. Decorative and small map of the West Indies, the gulf of Mexico and Florida. An interesting map with engraved routes of the Spanish fleet in the West Indies from Mexico and South America towards Cuba and towards the coast of Florida. The geographer Hermann Moll worked came originally from the Netherlands and worked in London in the beginning for Moses Pitt. Later he became one of the important map publishers in England. The atlases, which he published were widely well known. He engraved as well maps for other English publishers (John Seller, etc.) .
In excellent condition. A strong impresion, on the full sheet as published.

Fine designed and engraved small map by the London engraver Thomas Starling published in his 'Geographical Annual' 1833 showing a fair amount of place names, rivers and political borders of the different countries and territories.
