Original copper engraving, published 1574 in Antwerp in the atlas "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". First plate of Ortelius's 'Asiae Nova Descriptio'. From the first plate only approximately 1575 copies were printed. This is the 2nd state of the first plate of Ortelius's 'Asia Nova Descriptio'. It has the capital 'Farfana' and the town 'Ara' has disappeared. The map is printed on the full sheet as published, the lower margin is slightly narrow, however as published (just at about the engraved border line). Printed on good paper with a watermark: two crossed arrows.
A very good example in excellent condition and decorative handcolor. A minor carefully, nearly not visible, mending at the lower centre fold. Broe. 6. State 2 / 2.

Decorative handcolored woodcut map, published in the Cosmographia by Sebastian Muenster around 1575. Early and highly decorative woodcut map of Asia ornated with a large sea-monster or fish and a Neptune in the lower part of the map in the Indian Ocean. Asia is shown from the Caspian Sea and Arabia across the Indian Ocean, Sotheast Asia towards the Chinese sea. Mountains, rivers and place names are only schematic engraved on the map. The woodcut maps by Sebastian Muenster are belonging to the group of the most interesting maps, which were published in the 16th century. They were widely spread out and the Muenster's 'Cosmography' was published in several languages so that a pretty large part of the population was able to enjoy these geographical and cultural-historical illustrations.
Still in good condition. Right and left margins verso rebacked with older paper, due of the marginal creases and frases. Else in acceptable good condition.

Copper-engraving, decorative handcolored in outline and wash. Published in a Dutch text edition of J. Jansson's historical Atlas. Highly decorative antique map of Asia published in Jansson's 'Atlas Antiquus'. This fine map is based on the geographic sources by Nicolaus Blancard from Leiden. Ornated in the upper right corner with a highly decorative title cartouche, holded by two angels, further on we find at the bottom a text cartouche with a dedication to Gerardus Schaep by Nicolaus Blancardus. Next to this cartouche the map is ornated with 12 antique Roman coins, attributed to verious Roman emporers.

Copperengraving, uncolored as published. Small appealling map of the entire Asia, showing the Middle East, Arabia, Southeast Asia and already Australia (New Holland). In the ocean the passatwinds are engraved shown. The geographer Hermann Moll worked came originally from the Netherlands and worked in London in the beginning for Moses Pitt. Later he became one of the important map publishers in England. The atlases, which he published were widely well known. He engraved as well maps for other English publishers (John Seller, etc.) .
In excellent condition. A strong impresion, on the full sheet as published.
