This antique map shows the Great Lakes with the Midwest Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky & Tennessee and the western neighbouring Missouri. The map has three inset maps which are showing the surrounding of Nashville, Cincinnati and Lexington. Inside the map are many place names, rivers, lakes, etc. engraved. Chicago (Midwest US) Currier & Ives The City of Chicago. Copyright 1892. By Currier & Ives. N.Y. New York, Currier & Ives 1874 (1892) [52,5 x 82 cm] Fine original lithograph, hand colored in the period, published and printed in New York by Currier & Ives 1892. Currier & Ives published this view 1892 for the World's Columbia Exposition. Large folio bird's eye view of the city of Chicago drawn around 1874. Charles Parsons and Lyman Atwater worked as artists and lithographers for this giant bird's eye view. It shows detailed the spread out city of Chicago with lake Michigan and the Chicago river in the foreground. The fine view depicts detailed the harbor of Chicago with steam- and sailing boats in the foreground, next to it with the train station and lively boat traffic on the Chicago river. The sketch of the individual houses, churches, parks and larger buildings is highly detailed, in the very background you recognize the expansion of the settlement towards the green fields. The lithograph was just published three years after the great fire (1871) in Chicago. Below the lithograph we do find an extensive listing of important buildings, parks, churches, hotels, companies, etc. A highly decorative panoramic city view of the capital of the Midwest. No maior tears or repairs. Approximately with half an inch margin all around the image and then additonal margins added allround (ca. 1 1/2 - 2 inches). In very good condition.
