Description: Copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. Large sea chart, printed from two plates, published in the famous 'Neptune Francois' by Pierre Mortier, 1704/05 in Amsterdam. The map is depicting detailed the entire Indian Ocean from the Arabian peninsula towards towards Thailand, the Andaman Sea and Sumatra. In the eastern part of the map the Amirante islands are shown, the Maldives and India are prominently displayed in the center of the map, the west we find the gulf of Bengal, Birma and the kingdom of Siam (Thailand). Further on the map is ornated with two compass-roses and has many engraved details like place names, rivers, mountains, islands, sand banks, etc. Originally the French cartographer Hubert Jaillot published the 'Atlas Noveau ...' between 1682-96 in Paris. This geographic Atlas was a masterpiece in excellence compiled for the king Luis XIV and was all over a great success. Pierre Mortier acquired around 1700 the plates and enlarged this geographic atlas with the famous sea atlas 'the Neptune Francoise'. It was as well a masterpiece in excellence and highly successful.
