Cartographer: Ortelius, Abraham Published: Antwerp, Christopher Platin Date: 1574 Size: [35,7 x 47,8 cm] Technic: Copper engraving / later handcolor Description: Original copper engraving, handcolored, published 1574 in a Latin text edition of the Atlas 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum' at Christopher Platin in Antwerp. Finely hand-colored in wash and outline. Decorative and early map of Scotland. With many details on the map, towns are shown as minature city-views, rivers, lakes and mountains are also shown on the map. The map is ornated with the title cartouche in the upper right corner, on top left of middle we find a decorative scale of milage, in the lower right corner is written the 'privilegium'.
