Hogenberg Date: 1598 Size: [34,9 x 47,7 cm] Technic: Copper engraving / later handcolor Description: Original copper-engraving, hand colored in wash, published 1598 in volume V in the town book 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. A bird's eye view of the city of 'Colding' with its castle. In the foreground we look towards the town across the river. The prospect of Colding is equipped with many houses, the castle, gardens and the fields and trees in its nearby surrounding. The title is engraved in a bannerol with the coat of arms of the city. At the bottom is a large renaissance cartouche with an extensive table of explanation to the city of Kolding. This view was published 1598 in volume V of Braun and Hogenberg's 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum'. Notes: In excellent condition. One small mended tear near the lower centre fold.
