Date: 1643-50 Size: [41,5 x 52,8 cm] Technic: Copper engraving / Original color. Description: Copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published in Blaeu's Atlas. This antique map shows a parte of the duchy of Brabant in the Netherlands. The map is orientated with the north to the right. Bruxelles is prominently shown in the centre of the map. The map shows the area around Bruxelles with Loewen, Mecheln, Dendermonde and Aelst. Inside the map are many place names, rivers, streets, etc. engraved. In the upper left corner we find the figurative title cartouche with three coat of arms of the region of Brabant. In the upper right side we find a compass rose straightened to the north. The mileage scale is in the lower right corner ornated with angels holding cartographic instruments. This map by Guijelmus & Joan. Blaeu is based on the cartographic sources by Michael Florent from Langren. A very fine example published in a French text edition of the 'Atlas Major', wide full margins and outstanding hand coloring. Notes: In excellent condition.
