Goethaland Title: Gothia Cartographer: Blaeu, Joan & Guiljelmus Published: Amsterdam, J. Blaeu. Date: 1643-50 Size: [41,5 x 52,6 cm] Technic: Copper engraving / Original color. Description: Copper engraving, hand colored in outline when published. Decorative map of Gothia published around 1640-50 by the famous Dutch map publisher J. Blaeu. The map is richly ornated with a large figurative allegoric title cartouche, an ornated mileage scale and in the upper corners with two coats of arms of Gothia in Sweden. As well we find in the Baltic Sea ships for further decoration of the map. This map of Southern Sweden provides many place names of larger cities and small places as well. Rivers, lakes and mountains are also engraved. Along the coast many details of islands and fjords. Notes: In excellent condition and decorative old hand color. Centre fold verso strengthened.
