Description: Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash. A nice decorative colored example of this rare map showing the kingdom of Spain around 1632. This highly decorative is ornated with town views and costumes of the different Spanish provinces. Among the city views we find the monastery S. Laurencius (Escorial, Monserrat, Lisboa, Sivilia, Valla-Dolid, Toledo, Mons, S. Adriani (Biscaya), Burgos, Granada, Cisterna, Granatensis, Barcelona and a city view of Madrid below the floral ornated title cartouche. Further the map is ornated with sea monsters, sailing ships and a compass rose. In the upper border we find in the center a portrait of Philipp III. King of Spain. This is the 3rd of 6 states of Pieter van den Keere's map 'Nova Hispaniae Descriptio', which was published first by van den Keere in 1616 and was then published from 1626 to 1659 in six different states. The imprint by Janssonius appeared from the 2nd state 1626 onwards. According to G. Schilder (Cartographica Monumenta ... ) the 3rd state is present in three public collections and one private collection.

Notes: In very good condition. The upper engraved borders cut close to the engraved views and skillfully remargined and redrawn. The centre fold verso strengthened. The other three margins and borders in perfect condition.
