Hogenberg Date: 1598 Size: [37 x 49,5 cm] Technic: Copper engraving / later handcolor Description: Original copper engraving, hand colored in wash, published 1598 in volume V in the town book 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Braun and Hogenberg. The entire series of the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' comprised six volumes and was published and printed from 1572 towards 1619. The town books by Braun & Hogenberg are probably the most important series of early city views ever published. Three views on one double page engraving: Los Palacios, Alcantara & Cabecas. All three views are engraved after drawings by J. Huefnagel (1564-65). Notes: In very good condition. Minor creases at the centre fold, else very good.
