Description: Copper engraving, uncolored as published. Decorative baroque panoramic city view of London seen from the south of the river Thames, ornated with a figurative staffage in the fields or gardens in the foreground. At the bottom with explanation in Latin and German text, in the centre the coat of arms of London. The view shows London before the great fire. The top of the engraving is ornated with beautiful angels holding flags with an extensive table of explanations of buildings, houses and parts of the city. Joseph Friedrich Leopold belonged to the circle of famous engravers around Friedrich Bernhard Werner, Martin Engelbrecht and Johann Georg Ringlin. Those engravers and publishers in Augsburg were famous for their city prospects and panoramic views, depicting old European cities mainly in Germany, Italy, Austria and other European countries.

Notes: A strong impression with close margins around the printed platemark. In very good to excellent condition.
