One of the largest maps of Spain and Portugal published at the end of the 17th century in a French atlas publication. This map by Nicolaus Sanson provides excellent geographic information for this period. We do find an enormous amount of small place names, cities, rivers, mountains, castles and territorial borders engraved in this map. This highly decorative map of Spain is ornated in the lower right corner with a large highly decorative engraved allegoric title cartouche. In the lower left corner we find a mileage scale in Italian, French, German and Spanish miles. In the top left corner it bears a decorative cartouche with coat of arms with a dedication to Monseigneur Le Dauphin. The map also includes the Balearic Islands Majorca, Minorca and Ibiza. Large detailed and interesting map by the famous French cartographer Nicolaus Sanson published at Alexis Hubert Jaillot in Paris. Hubert Jaillot worked as a royal cartographers for the French royal house for king Louis XIV. His maps were published for the 'Atlas Nouveau ...', they can be regarded as masterpieces of cartography in France in the ending 18th century. Also the maps impress by their accuracy and are providing an enormous amount of place names, monasteries, rivers, trails, fortifications, etc. Notes: In excellent condition and decorative later hand color.
